Cultural monuments in the surroundings

South Moravia shows visitors a wide spectrum of cultural, natural and technical monuments, even admirers of modern architecture and lovers of Jewish landmarks come into their own. Four of these localities are recorded in the UNESCO World Heritage List and the offer is completed with attractive folklore and viticulture tourism. The region with a number of charming castles, impressive park structures, colonnades, statues and forest churches is likely to represent the most extensive designed landscape in the world. The area of Lednice and Valtice was deservedly recorded in the UNESCO World Heritage List as the most extensive designed landscape in Europe.
From afar the picturesque skyline of Mikulov Castle welcomes all visitors who enter the Czech Republic from Austria over the border crossing of the same name. The town also conceals the remnants of a Jewish ghetto and one of the largest Jewish graveyards in Central Europe. In the square a Renaissance house, called The Knights’, decorated with sgraffito, surpasses the others. The place is animated by a monumental baroque column of the Holy Trinity. A view point, closing the square on its east side, is the Ditrichstein tomb, which has been open to visitors since 2001, following general reconstruction.

The nature in the surroundings of the pension

The south of the country is mainly flat, with a typical symbiosis of fields, meadows and vineyards and the river Dyje, which has been creating flood-plain forest for ages. A number of irrigation channels lead from the river, many ponds have been made here. The lakes have become a rookery for palmiped birds and a temporary stop for birds of passage. Above the flat country the Pavlovice Highlands tower as a symbol of South Moravia, a habitat for thermophilic flora and fauna. The area of Lednice and Valtice serves to show a unique example of how the beauties of nature harmonize with human intervention.
